Surface Rights Acquisition, Administration, and Management

  • Complete initial project set up, including:

    • Determine land ownership and occupancy.
    • Provide surface rights cost estimates.
    • Review aerial photography.
    • Title and other materials review.
    • Landowner, occupant, other interested party contact, to discuss project and proposed survey work.
    • Perform preliminary field checks to determine topography, land use, residence locations, and potential crossings, when warranted.
    • Survey coordination and liaison with survey company, construction personnel, and pipeline inspectors.
    • Conduct thorough research into surface rights compensation and trends for specific area.
    • Prepare all required documentation and project information packages.

  • Negotiate for and acquire surface rights on Crown, Special Areas', Freehold, Métis and Indian Reserve (IOGC) land for:
    • Well Sites and Pad Sites.
    • Access Roads.
    • Pipeline Rights of Way and Sites for Related Above Ground Facilities.
    • Battery and Compressor Station Sites.
    • Generator (Gen-Set) Sites.
    • Utility Easements and Facility Sites.
    • Municipal Roads and Road Widening.
    • Temporary Workspace and Access:
      • Associated with new developments
      • Blanket rights, when required
      • For dig sites, bell holes, etc.
  • Obtain Right of Entry Orders from the Surface Rights Board and handle all services.

 

  • Prepare for and represent clients at subsequent Surface Rights Board hearings.

 

  • Pay landowners directly, when requested by clients.

 

  • Complete all required notifications.

 

  • Obtain necessary third party approvals (e.g. crossing, road use, proximity, encroachment, approach agreements)

 

  • Update clients on project status, on a regular basis.

 

  • Report to clients through various means.

 

  • Prepare accurate, complete and compliant final packages and transmit to clients.
